~Eureka Pots~

Our home and studio are located in rural Eureka township in southern Dakota County. Natural themes are prevalent on our pots, both in form and surface. Most pieces are thrown on the wheel and altered, and often carved or incised with slips and glazes. We make functional porcelain dinnerware, serving pieces and vessels, and fire to 2350°F in soda/salt atmosphere.
Introducing soda in the last stages of firing creates a wonderful interaction with both clay and glazes as it volatilizes throughout the kiln. It flashes pinks and oranges onto bare clay in unpredictable ways, and can intensify or bleach out the colors on glazed areas. This gives a varied, soft and supple quality to the surface. The element of surprise keeps the process interesting and ensures that each piece is lively and unique.
